Since 1991, the Master’s Program in Epidemiology at UFPel has maintained a dynamic teaching and research profile. The program offers a comprehensive educational experience, encompassing foundational concepts, theories, project development, and scientific article writing. Its primary objective is to equip epidemiologists with practical fieldwork experience, the ability to organize and collect primary data, and advanced skills in data analysis, particularly in Biostatistics.

Distinguished as one of the few programs in the country fostering independence in data analysis, it attracts professionals and recent graduates from diverse health-related disciplines. Applications for admission to the master’s program are accepted biennially, with the process beginning at the end of every even-numbered year through an official announcement. The dissertation defense timeline ranges from a minimum of fifteen (15) to a maximum of twenty-four (24) months from program entry. Students have flexibility in selecting research topics and elective courses based on their individual interests and career goals.

The academic Master’s in Epidemiology requires completion of a minimum of 70 credits, comprising elective and mandatory courses. Students preparing for dissertation defense must submit an original scientific article derived from their research, ready for journal submission, along with a robust research project, any project modifications, and a comprehensive fieldwork report.

Courses in PPGEpi are structured on a bimonthly schedule, spanning two months each. Mandatory courses typically include weekly classes held from Monday to Wednesday. Elective courses are primarily offered in even years and are often condensed in format. Upon enrolment, students commit to dedicating a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week during daylight hours to their coursework.

The mandatory theoretical-practical component of the program spans twelve (12) months, covering four (04) bimonthly periods shared across all concentration areas. Intensive courses are also available, ranging from one (01) to three (03) credits, with varying hourly requirements .
