Infrastructure - PPGEpi

PPGEpi offers extensive infrastructure for teaching and research across two adjacent buildings. The facilities include a computer lab, classrooms, meeting rooms, two fully equipped auditoriums, offices for researchers and postdoctoral fellows, project rooms, a biological sample laboratory, and a biorepository.

The computer lab is equipped with 13 computers in a climate-controlled environment, providing an optimal setting for studies and research. Modern classrooms and meeting rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure a high-quality learning and collaborative environment. The auditoriums accommodate between 70 to 120 people, suitable for lectures, seminars, and academic events, featuring computers, multimedia projectors, and projection screens. Researchers have access to individual or shared offices, offering a conducive environment for academic work. Essential support services include reception for inquiries from students and guests, room scheduling, and administrative assistance. Financial and administrative services handle budget preparation, financial execution, and research project reporting. Communication professionals oversee the dissemination of research findings. The secretariat manages all academic and administrative activities to ensure smooth program operation.

Clinics and Laboratories

Since 2010, PPGEpi has expanded its facilities with a second building, covering an area of 1,500 m². This space houses multidisciplinary laboratories essential for conducting research, including data collection and study areas that support projects like the Pelotas Birth Cohort Studies (1982, 1993, 2004, and 2015). These facilities are widely used by doctoral students and researchers.

Specialized Laboratories

For projects requiring clinical, anthropometric, and body composition data, the following specialized laboratories are available:

  • Body Composition Laboratory: Equipped with advanced devices such as the BodPod, DXA, Photonic Scanner, bioimpedance scale, and ultrasound equipment to assess various body composition parameters.
  • Physical Activity Laboratory: Equipped with over 200 triaxial accelerometers to evaluate physical activity levels over specified periods.
  • Cardiorespiratory Laboratory: Equipped with portable spirometers for lung capacity assessments and ultrasound devices for analyzing carotid intima-media thickness and abdominal fat layers.
  • Biological Material Processing and Storage Laboratory: Equipped to conduct analyses according to specific protocols for each sample type and to store all biological materials collected from studies in ultra-freezers or other appropriate conditions within the Biorepository.
